CONSEIL GENERAL : The President declares that he doesn' subsidise corridas but activites organised around the event - giving 5000 € for each. A bit ambiguous to say the least. The Mayor of Bourg-Madame writes in his municipal Bulletin that he received 140,000 FFR for the Conseils Regional and Général to buy the arenas. Isn't there any better use for OUR MONEY?
All the Conseillers Généraux were asked about their position regarding the financing of corridas with public money. The President du of the Conseil Général pretends not to do it, but actually subsidises bull fighting through the " ferias " associated with corridas. There are better uses for our money. We have to individually question them, and to tell them that we do not agree. With obviously a word about the unethical nature of theses practices, and giving the example of our neighbours across the Pyrenees
SAINT ESTEVE : from what we know, la Pényà Perpinyà la Taurine, having seen Perpignan being closed, considers St Estève, a town of which the Mayor is an animal torture enthusiast. This man never responded tot the letters sent by the SPA, the FLAC and form citizens. 3000 leaflets distributed to the inhabitants, a letter sent to the elected representatives, a presence on the marketplace to collect signatures have been necessary to make him react. He did react at the Conseil Municipal of February the 4th, that we attended, after having deployed protestation signs in front of the meeting room. " No building of arenas, but rather Portuguese bull corridas", are his declared intentions. The " Portuguese " are also animal torture, but the animals are killed out of the sight of the public. EL BURRO CATALÀ : Young Catalans in Banyoles have had the idea, to counterbalance the " toro " logo that you can see on many cars and truck - and that make people assimilate Spain and Corridas - to create another one representing the anticorrida. With lots of humour they chose the donkey, "hard-worker, stubborn… and so on " We will contact them.. |

Let's stay vigilant The Catalonia now rejects corridas. Spain is, as all Europe, in majority against it " Tauromaniacs " are worried. They try to penetrate the south of France, and find political people to help them. Amélie les Bains is threatened. On September 4th, during the " fiesta major ", the Barcelona tauromachie " school " gave a show, including an initiation to the capea. It's a beginning to push people to corridas later on. The Association Protection Animale Amélienne reacts.. We must support them. Several actions take place, including a presence on the market place. But please don't wait, protest by any means, sending your messages to the " Mairie d'Amélie " and the " Chaîne Thermale du Soleil ".

 TheAPADOG Association de Protection Animale D'Olot et des Garrotxes) filed a complaint against the arenas of Gérone and of Olot, for non-respecting the law of June 2003, forbidding the access to arenas for children under 14. In Gérone, the police of the Généralitat (Mossos d'Escuadra) screened the exit of the arenas, cheking the age of the youngsters. Seeing this, the owners of the arenas have cancelled two corridas. In Tarragone, same problem. The mayor declared: " If there is an evidence that children below 14 are admitted in the arenas, I will shut them down ". |
